Artist's Statement
For me, photography is an adventure that tells a story, and enlightens others to a world they may never see. My camera is like my other eye that reveals to me, a whole world of magic in nature. Unlike other mediums, where inspirations come from within, the inspirations are outside of myself, and I am discovering them, exploring the world, and communicating what I have seen with my photographs. Even though, in many cases, I do create serenity in my photos, I intend to choose subjects, that I feel are in need of attention in the world today.
The photographic work represented online was made with the intention of simply pointing out the art in nature. We are surrounded by art and don't always realize it. Mother Nature is the divine artist.
On a regular basis, I feel overwhelmed with new ideas and concepts. I have a love for nature and a sense of urgency for the eco-systems on our planet. That is what drives me to create sculptures from trash, and re-usable materials
I learn through having ideas and following them. For example, I imagine a mixed media project that includes stained glass, and I go learn stained glass. I always intend to use environmentally safe materials. Much of the time, I get my ideas from current events. Even though, in many cases, I do create art with serenity in mind I choose a subject for my art, that I feel needs attention in the world today. Many times it is an endangered animal, place, or people.
The sculptural collection represented online is an exploration of fantasy and myth through cultural uniqueness. Culture is like living art. We honor ourselves with art and tradition through culture. The more we globalize, capitalize, and disallow individual and cultural uniqueness, we loose what makes our world so interesting, and makes our curiosity shine. My exploration of cultural uniqueness is a way for me to personally learn about cultures, study them, and honor them, as well as attempt to share that knowledge learned with others. The more that we can learn from each other's cultures, and understand each other, the more peace and humanism we will exude and desire in the world.
